As I suspected, the card mechanic is my least favorite part. It’s a quirky take on your pretty average management game fare. If you fail the final scenario, however, you are given the option to replay just that level, however, I elected to start over with all the knowledge I’d gained from my previous playthrough to see if I could set myself up for success a little bit better. I’m just shy of 14 hours in, and have not yet managed to beat the campaign. I played on the standard difficulty (Sorcerer), but I decreased the game speed in order to have more time on each level, and it was still challenging to try to knock out all the necessary quests. There are five difficulty levels, five game speeds, and challenge rules that you can mix and match to customize your experience. The seventh time you do this, you need to complete a series of quests to defeat the Forces of Evil once and for all. You will also get a new curse, which makes things more difficult. In campaign mode, at the end of each level, you will be awarded a spellbook to use in all future levels, the strength of which depends on how many quests you were able to complete in the previous level. Meanwhile, you need to make nice with various factions, and you’ve got to work quickly, because the Forces of Evil are coming, making it necessary to move on to a new location and start again. Otherwise, it sounded right up my alley – you manage a magic school, building classrooms and services, hiring staff, and creating houses to focus the studies of certain students. The reason I thought I wouldn’t like it all that much is that, like every third game released in the past two years, there’s a card mechanic, and I am so over card games. But sometimes a game surprises me, and Spellcaster Universitydefinitely surprised me. Rather than keep them on my wishlist forever, I will play them on Game Pass or Utomik, and then move on. The game offers a fresh perspective on the management simulation genre and gives players the opportunity to shape their own magical institution.I fully admit that a big part of what I enjoy about gaming subscription services is the opportunity to try out things that intrigue me, but that I don’t actually think I’ll like. If you’re a fan of Harry Potter and crave a unique gaming experience that allows you to immerse yourself in the world of magic, Spellcaster University is a title that should not be missed. The developers, Sneaky Yak Studio, are aware of these criticisms and are committed to improving the game’s longevity and replayability before its console launch. While some express their love for the game’s cute and funny elements, others call for more variety to prolong the gameplay experience. With its release on PC and plans to expand to consoles in 2024, Spellcaster University has garnered positive reviews from players. However, be prepared to defend your institution from ruthless orc tribes and navigate the watchful eyes of education authorities. Will you transform your university into a hub for black magic and the dark arts, or will you foster an environment that harmonizes with nature and trains druids and shamans? Alternatively, you can also focus on training adventurous mages who excel in combat and stealth. From budget management to recruiting teachers, the choices are endless. Set in a colorful and whimsical setting, Spellcaster University invites players to build and manage their own magical school. Spellcaster University, a management simulation game, is a Potter-inspired gem that allows players to become the director of a magic university in a vibrant world of heroic fantasy. While Hogwarts Legacy offers an immersive RPG experience set in the magical universe, there is another game that is capturing the attention of Potterheads everywhere. Fans of the beloved Harry Potter series are always seeking new ways to dive deeper into the enchanting world of witchcraft and wizardry.
